Mixed conifer and hardwood forest — widespread habitat for generalist ECM mushrooms.
Common variable orange-tan Laccaria with thick widely-spaced gills. Hard to identify because the color and shape change dramatically with age ("deceiver"). Mild flavor.
Forest duff across temperate regions. Summer through fall.
