This species is found with or partners with the following hosts. Ectomycorrhizal hosts (green border) form a root-level partnership; ericoid / arbutoid shrubs (purple border) share the same mycorrhizal networks.

Large white parasol mushroom with brown scales and gills that turn GREEN at maturity. The most commonly eaten poisonous mushroom in North America — causes violent vomiting and diarrhea but rarely fatal. Adults and kids alike pick them from lawns.

EDIBLE. Parasol has white gills that STAY WHITE at maturity, and a snakeskin-patterned stem. Green gill's gills turn olive-green; stem is plain white.
Edible for most but causes GI upset in some. Shaggy parasol's gills also stay white/pink.
